New York City and Washington, DC with Yankee Holidays

We stayed at Affinia Manhattan and Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington DC.
It was so great to finally visit New York and go shopping in China Town!! I really enjoyed the Acela Amtrak train from Penn Station to Union Station (about 2 1/2 hour ride) and too see how that all worked.
When you visit these cities be prepared to do a lot of walking and dress appropriately for the weather.
Something to keep in mind if you are taking Amtrak between NYC and DC….find a red hat (that's what they call the guys at Amtrak) and if you tip him well he will get you and your luggage on the train before everyone else. This train is usually always full….so it saves a lot of time standing in line.
This was a great trip. I learned so much of what Yankee Holidays/ Amtrak Vacations can offer. We went to the theatre in New York and saw Jersey Boys (which was great). Sightseeing was fun in New York on the Gray Line hop on/ hop off double decker bus. I really enjoyed the dinner cruise on the famous Bateaux ….which included an up close view of the Statue of Liberty. In DC we toured the Newseum and sightseeing aboard the Tourmobile. Toured the all-new Hall of Presidents exhibit at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and the Museum of Crime & Punishment which was very interesting.

Hotel name: Affinia Manhattan
Highlights: Right across from Penn Station. Most rooms are one bedroom suites…includes full kitchens and a living room area. They also offer custom-designed Affinia beds and have a six-choice dream pillow menu.
Hotel name: Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers
Highlights: Another great location and very popular. Just two blocks from the August Wilson Theater.
Hotel name: Liaison Capitol Hill
Highlights: Great location! It is the closest hotel to the U.S. Capitol. The Smithsonian, Union Station are within walking distance. A sophisticated hotel, the rooms are very nice and modern, has a seasonal pool terrace and has an excellent destination chef-driven restaurant.
Hotel name: Hilton Washington
Highlights: Another great location….this is were the attempted assassination of President George. W. Bush took place. The rooms are very nice and spacious.. The restaurant is excellent!.
Highlights: Beautiful hotel….has a huge outside courtyard and fitness area. Perfect for both families and business travelers. They have a more sophisticated and upscale restaurant. Rooms are very modern and upscale.
