New Orleans

This was my first visit since Katrina and it was eerie to approach downtown New Orleans and view those bridges surrounding the Stadium - during the aftermath of Katrina those images were burned into our eyes. Good to see though the town is recovering nicely and tourism once again reigns. The first night I stayed at the Windsor Court - the lobby is spectacular, the accommodations could use some tender loving care - but it's still a grand place to cocoon - right in the midst of the craziness of New Orleans (Harrahs across the street) but while you're at the hotel you may well think you're in a stately mansion in Great Britain. In the evening we made a pilgrammage to Bourbon Street and nothing has changed there - still wild as ever...music everywhere including street corners, and everything that goes with indulging in too much alcohol. Popular for bachelor and bachlorette parties, birthday parties, and party parties.
That evening we had a group dinner at Dragos (located at the Hilton).

This restaurant's specialty - charbroiled oysters - like nothing you've ever had. Our hungry seafood-starved Great Plains beefeaters packed away dozens of them.odations could use some tender loving care - but it's still a grand place to cocoon - right in the midst of the craziness of New Orleans (Harrahs across the street) but while you're at the hotel you may well think you're in a stately mansion in Great Britain.
